March 30, 2015

Family and Friends,

Well it is that time. We got transfer calls and I am returning to the great city of Tirana. This time I will in Tirana 4th Ward. I will be serving with Elder Greener who is a newer missionary. He is in Elder Edding's group and I am very excited to be with him.

I should let you know that my health from about 10 days ago is much improved and I am continually regaining my strength.  I hope to be a 100% better in the next few days.
I am sad to leave Fier. I am particularly am sorry to leave the group of missionaries. Elder Matson has been a great companion and he and I have learned a lot together. He stuck with me in times of sickness and success. He was a fantastic companion and I am glad to have been a part of his mission. I am also very glad to have been in the same district as Elder Wright and Elder Schramm (again). I learned a lot from them and I am super happy to have been with them.

Ok, they will kill me if I do not mention this. Our sisters, Sister Pitcher and Sister White, the Southern Sister Training Leaders, are some of the most fantastic people on the planet. They have changed my perception of what hard working, powerful individuals who know how to have a good time. They know how to hold their own and change lives. I appreciate the time I shared with them and I am very grateful for what they have done with their missions. They are returning home in a day or two. I am grateful for the lessons they taught me and the people whom I serve. I wish them the best.

I love you all and I am excited to write for from Tirona zemra jona (our heart).

Elder Matson and  Elder Acheson
Family and Friends,

I have been rather sick this week. I do not have a lot to report unfortunately aside a lot of listening to talks and eating not-vomit inducing foods.

Elder Matson was admirably able to coordinate a number of splits to enable him to teach a new and great investigator named Eni. He is a 19 year-old and has an apparent desire to learn about the gospel. I am excited to work him more when I am in better physical condition.

I love you all and I know that this work is the Lord's work and that He attends to it even when His servants are weak and unable to.

This is Elder Acheson's mom.  Because Chase didn't write much this week, I thought I would include a part of Elder Matson's letter home.  He says some very kind things about Elder Acheson.

The most exciting thing that happened this last week was that Elder Acheson got sick.... so sick that I have been inside a lot with him.  He is getting better but it is still hard for him.  We have much in common music-wise and our will to work is aligned, just nature and Satan are not wanting us to do that!  We have been able to punch him in the face a few times with 1 new baptismal date as well and some awesome investigators.  We need to continue to find those that are prepared so hopefully this week we can do that. It is so much better finding those who are prepared for the Lord.  Our sister missionaries that serve here are leaving next Tuesday so it has been kinda funny seeing how they are coping and still working hard til the end.

I have studied a ton about the Atonement recently and it has been very enlightening and spiritual understanding more about it and how it works out our salvation and those that are around us! XD  Elder Acheson has gone to the "fiery" place and back while being sick and it has been hard for him but he has really been a big help for me and a strength.  I am so thankful for him and what he has been doing for me and Fier.  With transfers coming up, my next email will be crazy probably! XD

Well I love you all!

(Elder Acheson's camera is broken and no new photos to share.  This editor is recycling earlier photos from his mission.)

This week has been a good one for us here in Fier. Elder Matson and I had a consecration week were we only spoke in Albanian to one another. I feel that he and I were blessed throughout this week because of our efforts. We had a new invitation to try and meet with every investigator every day. We did our best to do that and I feel that we were very successful in those efforts.

We have a new investigator named Piro. His son Dhimetri (12) is a a member as well as his wife. We visited them about 5 times this week and saw some great progress. He has learned with missionaries before and he has read the Book of Mormon. We have challenged him to get baptized and we are working together slowly to get him to that point.

We are also working with a couple. Their names are Krenar and Elsa. They are English course investigators and we have been doing 50% Gospel and 50% English with them. They started only wanting English but they are excited to learn about the Gospel. Endrit, the Elder's Quorum President, has been very helpful with their lessons; he also speaks English very well.

I was assigned to be the new Gospel Principles teacher about 30 seconds before the class began after sacrament meeting on Sunday. I am excited to work with the investigators and recent converts. I am very happy to have a teaching call here in Fier.

On Monday we went down to Vlorë for Sister White's birthday. We had lunch and walked around a bit. It was a nice day that we were able to share together as a district.

I love you all and hope to be able to report an even better week next week.

Family and Friends,

Elder Acheson with the bust of Jesus Christ given to him by Brother Arben Vogli

Hello from Fier, Albania! This has been a fun filled week! I ask for an apology; last Monday I was unavailable to send out the weekly email because I had blood tests in Tirana. I am clear of any problems which is fantastic news! I wasn't able to write because that day was too full of traveling.

This week Elder Matson and I, along with the rest of Fier district, restarted the English course. We are taking the mesatar or intermediate course. I prefer teaching advanced but the sisters only have three weeks left on their missions and they haven’t taught advanced.

On Thursday we had zone training in Vlorë. Elder Matson and I rode with the Berat elders, Elder Lee and Elder Muncy. After the training the Berat Elders and Fier District had lunch at our “3rd House” in Fier, a very good restaurant that we call “3rd House.” It was nice to see Elder Lee now that he is in the closing weeks of his mission. I am excited for him and for all of the things he has done here in Albania over the period of his mission.

On Saturday morning we had soccer with the youth and it was a lot of fun. I am just really the Branch Soccer Photographer. I enjoy seeing all of the younger guys play while I sit with the branch xhaxhis or old men. I am definitely express-bound for the high priest group.

We had the second Tirana, Albania Stake Conference this weekend. The Saturday Adult Session was supposed to be broadcast to our building but we had so many technical difficulties that we ended up watching “Finding Faith in Christ” after singing some hymns. Elder Wright did a fantastic job in adapting to the circumstances. He is a fantastic district leader.

On Sunday the Fier Branch gathered in the center of the city and we grabbed a chartered bus and went to Durrës where the Western Albania session was to take place. I saw many people with whom I have worked for the past year and a half. I was so happy to see so many people whom I had influenced and who had influenced me. I saw people like Elder Trazhgim Gosturani who is being trained by my former companion Elder Richards (few times have I been more jealous of someone’s companionship before in my mission); Besa Alla, whom I taught in Durrës but ran into in Gjakova, Kosovo who is now baptized; Aida Baça, who was baptized when I was in Durrës who has submitted her mission papers, Ani Cani, who is entering missionary service in 3 weeks’ time, Armando Simoni, who will soon be entering the field, and so many others. One family in Durrës, the Cenollari Family, has a grandmother, with whom I worked last year and through the recent efforts of my current companion Elder Matson, is now on a baptismal date.

Aside from the spiritual uplift of seeing the growth of people whom I love, the talks given were stupendous. Sister Arjeta Braha, a mini-missionary with whom I worked in Elbasan 14 months ago, gave a testimony about how the she had become a better person by attending Seminary and Institute. To see her growth alone was fantastic.  The other talks especially from President Mema were fantastic.

For P-Day we headed down to Vlorë to a place called Zvërnec. There was a beautiful orthodox monastery on an island. The only problem was that the bridge that led to the monastery was broken. We walked out on the bridge only to find the last 30 yards were missing. Undeterred we headed over to a beautiful beach and walked on the sand and enjoyed a beautiful morning on the beach.

Well I love you all. I hope that this week will yield for each one of you a manifestation of the love that God has for you. I love Him and I love you all.

Eating Goat Brains

Family and Friends,

This week began off with a surprise mini transfer. President Weidmann decided last minute that Elder Eddings needed to go to Durrës. In his place I got Elder Matson from Huntsville, Alabama. I am excited to be with him in Fier and I believe that we will be able to get good work done here.

This week has been a week full of finding and working with members in the branch. On Saturday we played soccer with some of the members and that was a blast of fun. We had some older members join in, not only the youth.

Sunday was excellent. It was Fast Sunday and the testimonies that were given were powerful and touching. The man who was supposed to give the closing prayer got up ten minutes until the hour, without being announced nor having any form of indication that he should do so. He gave the prayer and the branch presidency awkwardly played off of it and ended the meetings.

I was asked to teach Priesthood and we talked about enduring life well in times of trials (the 4th Chapter from the President Benson book). We watched a video from the online Ezra Taft Benson exhibit. We talked about the Saints with whom he worked during World War II were supported through hard times. We also watched the Refiner's Fire Mormon Message. I really felt that the lesson was guided by the Spirit and that some were very touched

Ok, I am sending this email on Tuesday, the reason why is because my P-Day was completely crazy. Both Elder Wright, my district leader, and I had medical appointments and interviews with President Weidmann. We, thank you to our wonderful sisters, had a car that enabled our travels. I went to the hospital and gave blood and then we went off to have interviews with President Weidmann. After we had lunch at Era, one of my favorite restaurants in Tirana.

Then Elder Wright was supposed to have a medical appointment at the ABC clinic but someone had to park right behind our car. We were able to reschedule the appointment and then the guy moved his car. That gave us time to got to my tailor and get my measurements taken for my suit and pick up my Jesus Christ bust made by brother Arben Vogli. Elder Wright made it to his clinic appointment and we took care of our office work and got on the road. Last night was Elder Wright's first time driving in Albania and he did very well.

We got back safely and had a great P-Day together.

I love you all and I will make sure pictures make it out on the blog.
