WEEK #23 IN TIRANA, ALBANIA

Elder Acheson and the little church cat "Alexa"
Family and Friends,

Happy Thanksgiving Week from Tirana!

On Tuesday evening we took the Weidmanns to Sulejman’s home and we had a beautiful evening with them, the Muça Family, and Brother Cara – the member who introduced Sulejman to the Church. We taught a wonderful lesson on the Restoration of the Church and the Weidmanns gave powerful testimony.

At the home of Bishop and Sister Zela
The Weidmanns dropped us off after our lesson to have a lesson with Alushi family: a family whom I loved most dearly when I was in 3rd Ward last year. They are preparing to go to the temple and Bishop Zela asked us to teach them temple preparation lessons.

After that lesson while we were walking home it began raining, blowing, and hailing. It came down so powerfully that the streets filled with water and our umbrellas and coats could not stop the water, our shoes and suits were completely soaked through. We did sit on our balcony when we got home in towels and watched the rain soak and lightening bombard the city.

Then on Wednesday we went and helped Alfred Abdullari by cutting wood for him. Afterwards Elder Richards cooked French onion soup for him and his mother for lunch. Later that evening we and the sisters went and spent a part of the evening with Bishop and Sister Zela.

On Thursday we began our advanced English course for investigators. Elder Richards does not like teaching English and so we have worked out a system where I teach the English and he is the ”eye candy” along with giving the spiritual portion of the lesson. The course we are giving is focusing on rhetoric and writing and speaking persuasively.

Then on Friday we had our ward correlation meeting. At the beginning a little black kitten walked in. She was a playful little thing. While one companionship discussed their area the other was playing with the little kitten. As it turns out she belongs to our building’s landlord and it lives at the church, so now we have a church kitten, her name is Alexa.

Elder Richards and I have recently constructed a fire pit on top of our apartment’s roof. It is an excellent way to end a long day. Elder Richards and I have thoroughly kënaqed. I am very happy to serve with Elder Richards.

We and the Sisters visited Iris where lives the best tre leche

Today for p-day we played American football and had ourselves a Turkey Bowl with the missionaries here in Tirana. Then to make this day more American, we ate Mexican food with the assistants.

I love you all and I hope you are having excellent weeks.

Love,

Elder Açësoni

WEEK #22 IN TIRANA, ALBANIA

Family and Friends,

I hope you have had a wonderful week. We have had an amazing week.

At the baptism of Sulejman Muca
On Saturday we held a baptismal service for our investigator Sulejman Muça. I was honored to be asked to perform the ordinance. We had a great attendance at the service and even President Weidmann was able to join us. Brother Cara, the member who introduced Sulejman to the Church, and Elder Richards were able give talks and it was just a wonderful experience.
The missionaries with the Muca family.

Later Saturday evening we were joined by Sister Vermunt and Sister Coleman for a dinner with Sulejman and his family. It was a very pleasant experience and it was great for Sulejman’s children to get to know us better. I believe we adequately dispelled their fears that we were Jehovah’s Witnesses. I am now best friends with Kevin, Sulejman’s 8 year-old son.

On Thursday we had a phenomenal mission conference in Durrës. Elder Timothy Dyches of the Europe Area Presidency came and presided and delivered a powerful training. His wife, President Weidmann, his wife, and President Mema, our Stake President, all spoke to us. For me, President Mema’s words were particularly moving.

Another wonderful thing that happened this week was that a young man from Tirana 3rd Ward named Trashgim Gosturani opened his mission call and he will be serving in the England, Birmingham Mission and he will leave in February. I am very excited to see the growth that has happened with him.

I love you all greatly and I would like to let you all know that my brother Race will be shortly joining the missionary force. I would ask that your prayers be with him in that he will be going in to the MTC in a month’s time. I know that he will be a great missionary.

I love you all,

Elder Açësoni

WEEK #21 IN TIRANA, ALBANIA

On top of the Pyramid of Tirana

November 10, 2014

Family and Friends,

I hope you have had a great week and happy elections! We heard the great news from one of our families in 3rd Ward and all of us Americans here are rejoicing.

This week flew by. We have been working very hard to get our investigator Sulejman ready to begin preparations for baptism. He is showing great progress and we are excited to help him make these steps.

On Monday last we took our investigator Ledi to the Institute Offices for Family Home Evening. We learned 15 minutes after the class was supposed to begin that the teacher was not coming. So Elder Richards and I taught the Family Home Evening class. That was a fun opportunity to get to now some other members and investigators from the other side of the city. One of the younger ladies who took part was baptized this past weekend.

Throughout the week we chopped up a tree we felled in Alfred Abdullari’s back yard and met with Bishop Zela and his family for a lesson at his home. I love Bishop Zela. When I was in Tirana last year he was the 1st Counselor in the District Presidency and then when the Stake was created he is put in as the 3rd Ward bishop. He is one of the most up front and good people you will meet. I am so blessed to be here in 3rdWard.

Today for P-Day we finally climbed the Pyramid at the center of the city and went to the Rogner hotel for lunch with Elder Opper and Elder Griffiths from 1st Ward. I loved spending time with them. Elder Griffiths, a trainee has a smile from here to Rome.

I love you all and hope to find you well this next week.

WEEK #20 IN TIRANA, ALBANIA

Monday, November 3, 2014
The Pirate Elder and friend

Family and Friends,

Happy Halloween from Tirana! We had a great Halloween here and I hope you enjoyed yours.

Our Ward had a Halloween Party and the missionaries provided activities and offered a spiritual thought. Elder Richards and I operated the "Guess what body part this is" game where we prepared pasta, carrots, olives, and califlower and that were intestines, fingers, eyes, and a brain. We had a sheet and had the kids put their hands in and guess what they were touching. It was very fun.

We had a powerful lesson after church with our investigator Suleman and the Elder's Quorum President Arben Vogli. Brother Vogli is a powerful witness of Jesus Christ. This is the sculpter in 3rd Ward that carves busts of Jesus Christ. He was able to bear powerful testimony of the reality of personal revelation.

For P-Day Elder Richards and I went to the Artificial Lake in Tirana and then to the Zoological Park. Just a traveling hint, if you are an animal person, do not go to the Tirana Zoo.

I love you all and we talk next week!
